Oracle: archived redo log file

The archived redo log file might be stored in the fast recovery area.
Archived redo log files might be used for media recovery. They're not used for instance recovery or crash recovery.

Data Guard

In a Data Guard environment, archived redo log files are shipped to a physical standby database which uses it for an ongoing media recovery to keep itself synchronized with the primary database.
