System.IO (namespace)

The System.IO namespace provides classes that are used in relation to files and directories.

Some commonly used classes of this namespace include

• System.IO.File and System.IO.Directory
• System.IO.FileInfo and System.IO.DirectoryInfo
• System.IO.Path
• Classes that inherit from the abstract class System.IO.Stream which provide reading and writing data. A stream's three fundamental operations are: read, write and seek.
